About the role
Production engineering has always been limited by how much information one engineer can review, how many models they can maintain, and how many decisions they can make in a day. AI changes that constraint. Enfinite Technologies is building the intelligence layer for the next generation of oil & gas production operations: not another dashboard or set of alerts, but a new operating model in which engineers work alongside intelligent systems that continuously understand an asset, reason across engineering data and physics, identify what matters, and act within defined operational guardrails.
We are hiring a Principal Production Engineer to work at the intersection of production engineering, field operations, AI, optimization, and product development. You will partner directly with leading upstream operators and work on technology deployed against real producing assets. Alongside our engineering and AI teams, you will encode production engineering knowledge, physics, and decision-making into intelligent software, directly shaping both our product and how production operations are performed.
This is not a conventional production engineering role. You do not need to be an AI engineer, but you do need to be an exceptional production engineer who wants to help define what a production engineer, and a producing asset, looks like in an AI-native world.
Problems you will work on
Prioritization
Which wells need attention today, and why? The system should already know.
Diagnosis
When a well drifts outside its historical operating envelope, is it a reservoir response, an artificial lift issue, a facility constraint, an instrumentation fault, or an emerging failure? Our agents should investigate.
Constrained optimization
When a field is limited by lift gas, compression, or facility capacity, what combination of changes maximizes production while respecting every engineering and operational constraint?
Well history
What changed, when, what actions were taken, and what happened next, answered in seconds rather than hours.
Autonomous execution
With sufficient confidence, validation, and operational authority, can the system safely execute the optimization itself?
What you will do
- Serve as a senior production engineering leader across customer deployments, product development, engineering workflows, and autonomous operations.
- Work directly with production engineers, field teams, and technical leaders at major upstream operators to understand how assets are run and where intelligence or automation can create value.
- Translate real-world production engineering problems into scalable capabilities within Enfinite's physics-informed Agentic AI platform.
- Help design AI agents that perform engineering surveillance, investigate production behavior, identify risks and opportunities, recommend actions, and support increasingly autonomous workflows.
- Lead engineering validation of production optimization and surveillance capabilities across operating assets.
- Develop and improve workflows for artificial lift optimization, well performance, nodal analysis, production diagnostics, anomaly and event detection, production loss analysis, and integrated well and facility optimization.
- Define the physics, engineering logic, operating constraints, validation requirements, and guardrails needed for safe autonomous optimization.
- Analyze SCADA, production, allocation, well test, engineering model, and operational data to understand asset behavior and validate recommendations.
- Integrate engineering models and simulators (IPR/VLP and nodal analysis, artificial lift models, and network models) into AI-driven workflows, working alongside AI, software, data, and product engineers.
- Act as a senior technical interface with customers during implementations, technical reviews, field validation, and account expansion.
- Help define how Enfinite measures production uplift, operational improvement, engineering efficiency, and confidence in autonomous decisions.
- Shape the roadmap as the technology evolves from decision support toward increasingly autonomous production operations.
What you bring
- 8+ years of upstream production engineering experience, ideally across unconventional or large-scale producing assets.
- Deep understanding of well performance, production optimization, artificial lift, and production surveillance.
- Strong hands-on experience with gas lift and/or ESP systems, including working with artificial lift models.
- Strong grasp of IPR/VLP, nodal analysis, well modeling, and production system behavior.
- Experience working with high-frequency SCADA data, production and allocation databases, well tests, and engineering applications.
- Strong engineering judgment, including the ability to tell a mathematically optimal recommendation from one that makes sense operationally, and an appreciation for uncertainty, data quality, and field realities.
- Experience working directly with field operations and production engineering teams.
- Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to software engineers, executives, and field personnel.
- A desire to build, not simply operate, the next generation of production technology.
Nice to have
- Experience with artificial lift methods beyond gas lift and ESP.
- Exposure to Python, data science, or machine learning.
- Experience with optimization, real-time optimization, or production network modeling.
- Experience with digital oilfield systems or advanced production software.
- Prior involvement in software product development or technology deployments with operators.
